I enjoyed this episode.  I wish This had been around when I first decided to get into boardgaming because it would have definately been helpful.

How about adding a "boardgame glossary" to cover game terms to thedicetower.com?

I think the DVD collection the first 50 episodes is a great idea.  I have had a good time listening to all 50.  I rarely listen to an episode more than once so I doubt I will be buying the disc at $25.  If I were new to the show I would consider picking it up to get caught up.

Sam, Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition is a tough sell as an game for new boardgamers.  The rules clock in at 44 pages!

Jason, ASL Starter Kit #1 features 8 pages of the most complex rules I have read.  This one may do more to scare off a new wargamer than encourage him/her.

I do like both games however!

Just finished listening.  Episode 0 may be the most epic introductory episode ever created   For first-time listeners and people new to boardgaming, though, I think it'll be extremely helpful.  Generally I'm not a fan of the pre-recorded Top 10 lists, but in this game I think it will do a lot to make new listeners aware that there are some simply amazing games out there.  If I were new to the hobby I think I'd run out and get a copy of Ticket to Ride after hearing it appear on almost every list you had on the show.

Good stuff.  Great idea on the DVD as well.  It might be a tough sell for long-time listeners who are all caught up but for new folks it should be a steal.  $25 for 50+ hours of content?  Not a bad deal at all.  If there's any chance we could get autographed copies or something it might help pull in the long-timers.

Nice episode, great top 10, lots of fun suggestions. I totally agree with Ticket To Ride being #1, Great game series, I love Europe and Marklin. Haven't played US that much, but it seems just as good. Europe I like beause of train stations. Great Game for new and experienced players. Lots of fun. One of the games that got me really into gaming.

Memroir 44, haven't played yet, but I did just pick up a copy. Can't wait to play it.

I think another good starter game is Clue or Myster of the abbey, they are fairly simple and fun and I think a good starter. Also jungle speed is a great and addictive game that is simple and fun and will get a group hooked into play games.

Really a fun episode.  Good call on it!  I enjoyed almost every moment of it.  I know all of those games, but it still felt knew hearing about them again.  Weird, but I dig it the most!

That we don't have, but I can autograph a sticker and send it to you to put on the DVD!

Just wanted to add my kudos--great episode, really enjoyed it!  I'm going to try to point some friends to it, and I'll probably listen to it myself again--some really good info here!

As for Twilight Imperium and ASL Starter Kit, maybe they wouldn't be the best thing for non-gamers, but might they be good introductions to boardgaming for folks who are already experienced gamers in other media (computers, minis), or who are getting back to them after a long absense and need a reintroduction?  For those folks, too simple might be a turn-off, and some complexity, fanciness, or just plain chrome may be attractive.
